A contest organized by the Mixed Society for the Promotion of Tourism of Valladolid, in collaboration with its Provincial Association of Hospitality and the gastronomic events organization and communication agency Gastronomicom News, which every year invites active professional chefs from the Spanish hospitality industry to the festival and the tapas competition that has been held since 2005 in the capital of Castile-Leon.
The registration period is now open, and until October 5, chefs who wish to participate and meet the requirements, will be able to send the necessary documentation – detailed information can be consulted at this address– to participate in one of the largest tapas festivals in the world with a proposal whose maximum cost in raw materials may not exceed 1.20 euros. The contest is endowed with a first prize of 10,000 euros, a second of 5,000 and a third of 2,500 euros.
National Contest of Pinchos and Tapas of Valladolid
The contest will be held on November 8 and 9 at the Millennium Dome in Valladolid, an appointment in which the forty-five finalists will have 25 minutes to prepare their tapas in person and live, which will be evaluated by a jury made up of hospitality and communication professionals, chaired by a prestigious personality from Spanish gastronomy.
In addition, the finalist tapas can be tasted, from November 8 to 14, in a series of bars and restaurants in the city, which will act as godfathers of the selected chefs, reproducing their preparations for the general public.
The winning tapas of the last 2020 edition were:
- First prize: Corchifrito, by Emilio Martín Maquedano (Suite 22, Valladolid)
- Second prize: Almadraba smokeby Juan María Díaz Llanos (Casa Marinos, Plentzia, Vicaya).
- Third award: Cooking in Vermouth, by Ernesto Ventós (Hermanos Vinagre, Madrid)
- More traditional lid: Cod fritterby Manuel Soto Carlos (Lilicook Vermutería, Salamanca).
- Most avant-garde cover: Suckling pig on a silver tray, by Toño Rodríguez Iguacel (The Era of the Nogales, Huesca).
- Best cover concept: Russian Imperial Fuastelby Raúl Pobo Rabadán (Antojos, Zaragoza).

As every year, a new edition of the Valladolid National Pinchos and Tapas Contest is launched, which from November 8 to 10 will bring together a total of forty-five finalist chefs who will compete for the award for the best cooking preparation miniature of the country.
