Last spring the surprise jumped that the brand with the blue oval recalled the most basic version of the Ford Mustang in Europe. The one that was called to be the one with the highest demand in the Old Continent, the 2.3-liter, 290-hp four-cylinder EcoBoost, was eliminated without explanation. However, a leak has revealed that it will return in 2023 as a hybrid mechanic.
Last March, the news appeared that the range of the Ford Mustang in Europe it was losing one of the versions that was called to be the star in the Old Continent. The company with the blue oval debuted an unprecedented four-cylinder version in the brand’s best-selling sports car, equipped with the same engine as the Focus ST. The powerful block of 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline and a maximum power of 290 hp.
However, the internal studies of the brand pointed more to a hindrance than a commercial success, so without saying a word, Ford dispensed with this access version in the main European countries, including Spain. But to surprise, now a leak has discovered that the brand intends to offer this version again in 2023, as confirmed by one of its engineers in the profile of a well-known professional social network, noting that one of his last experiences has gone through the project «S650», the next generation Mustang.
Two hybrid engines will fuel the new 2023 Ford Mustang
And it is none other than the new model, which the brand itself has already leaked that it will be presented in 2022 as a 2023 model. But, for more “INRI” for Ford, the engineer has revealed that he has been working on the Analysis of the Hybrid Technology of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost Four-cylinder Engine and the 5.0-liter V8 also equipped with this technology. The truth is that it is not something that can be surprising if we take into account the tightening of emission standards, so the Mustang is forced to be electrified.
Of course, the Ford Motor Company worker has not specified the electrification technology he has been working on – it would be the last straw, despite the fact that data have been revealed on other occasions – but the firm has had test mules of a Mustang Hybrid. Some spy photos that we saw four years ago with a camouflaged front half, and of which a mule from a Hybrid Mustang was already pointed out, but of which there were never any clear signs that it was.
Now, it is confirmed that the American “muscle car” will be a hybrid. With no indication in those spy photos of a possible battery charging port, a Hybrid self-recharging system more than just a MHEVAs Ford already announced that a hybrid version would offer the power of a V8 engine. Which means a typical hybrid setup, with the electric motor placed next to the 10-speed automatic gearbox, being able to exceed 400 hp, and a small battery. The most plausible option compared to a plug-in, which always adds a significant extra weight.
