One of the most frequent complaints I hear about Capture One is how difficult it is to learn to operate it. And it is true, it cannot be denied that the learning curve of the program is very steep, but when you master it it is perfect. This time we are going to discover a very simple trick to handle the curves of Capture One in a direct and easy way.
Master the curves and you will master the development in any program, even Capture One. This time we are not going to talk about how they work or the secrets of their operation, but we are going to reveal a little trick to make the process much more agile.
When you use the Curves tool in Capture One it appears naked, without any dots. And that can cause everything to be a little slower when choosing points. With the trick that Alexander Svet proposes, everything will be faster.
How to create an automatic curve in Capture One
Inside the tool Curve, which we can place on the panel we need, we only find the cold diagonal line. And if we don’t know how to use it, we can go crazy.
One of the things that I always recommend is to go to the presets and choose one of the proposals. I always fall into Contrast RGB or Luma, depending on the need to have more or less saturation.
But it is true that every photo needs a custom adjustment, so the trick below is perfect:
- In the tool Curve, we click on the icon of the three lines (known as the hamburger)
- We choose the preset 5 points-Allchanels (The bad translation of the program is already part of its essence). Of course you can choose any other curve that is useful to you.
- This setting allows you to control the highlights and shadows of the file with extreme precision without having to create the points, you just have to drag them.
- Before adjusting anything, we click on the icon with the three dots and mark Set as defaults for … (the name of your camera will appear here).
And from that moment on, all the files you open from your camera will have that default curve to lose as little time as possible when developing. It’s not much of a gimmick, but anything that speeds up development in Capture One will be welcome.
