Before the premiere of the animated shorts series I’m Groot a debate ignited, including between producer James Gunn and Marvel Studios, over the timeline placement of this show in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But it really doesn’t matter.
This Wednesday, August 9, the five shorts with the adventures of little Baby Groot were released on Disney+, and although most of us marvelites are surprised by how entertaining they are, are inconsequential to the MCU.
Gunn said before the premiere that the events of I’m Groot “are not necessarily part of the Guardians of the Galaxy saga”, while Marvel stated that the events occurred between the end of Guardians Vol. 2 and the first post-credits scene of the film.
Honestly, little Groot’s adventures in his short show have little to do with the MCU. They are very short episodes, the entire first season lasts about 20 minutes and was created to make us laugh.
Without adding spoilers of moments that can ruin the party, we can say that Groot passed all five episodes getting angry over stupid things and making bad decisions. Very bad. We can anticipate that she has an “epic battle” against a bonsai.
Extra data: there’s a Thanos easter egg, a cameo from Drax the Destroyer and a post credits “image”. Not a scene, but just an image
