A developer has managed to get the Google Play Store to work on Windows 11. This way it is possible to download and run any kind of games or applications Android on Microsoft’s operating system.
We know that one of the most important new features of Windows 11 is the compatibility with Android applications. However, this is limited to those available in the Amazon Appstore catalog.
The Amazon application store is not bad, however, a good part of the applications that we use on a daily basis require Google Play services and, therefore, will not be available in Windows 11.
Fortunately, there are those who have taken on the task of creating a method to achieve this. User ADeltaX on GitHub has posted a project showing step by step how to make the Google Play Store work on Windows 11.
Instructions, available at GitHub and in a video of Youtube, show in detail from downloading the necessary tools to configuring the Android Subsystem for Windows to bring the Google Play Store to life.
Of course, it should be noted that the procedure can be much easier for those who are familiar with Linux commands. ADeltaX notes that it will update its guide over time to make it easier to understand.
Android apps on the way to Windows 11
We must remember that the Amazon Appstore, and therefore the Android applications available in it, have not yet officially made it to Windows 11. Microsoft is working to polish the system, but has already released a preview version of it.
Members of the Windows Insider Program with a US-based Amazon account can now try a limited number of 50 Android apps from the Amazon Appstore.
Certainly the Amazon store has many more applications, but the full catalog in Windows 11 will be available later, when Microsoft moves forward with the general rollout of the function.
To enable Android apps to run on Windows 11, Microsoft has incorporated the Android Subsystem for Windows. This will be installed automatically in the future when you want to download an app from the Amazon Appstore.
It should be noted that the Android Subsystem for Windows, with some gadgets, will allow the installation of applications outside the Windows 11 stores. Basically any APK can be installed, as long as it does not require Google Play services.
