This Saturday, March 11, marks the three-year anniversary of the declaration of a Covid-19 pandemic in Mexico. At the time we thought we would only be in quarantine for a couple of weeks, however, social distancing went on for months.
During this health crisis, we are facing great loss of loved ones, jobs, economic crisis and the disruption of our way of life to shape the “New Normal”. However, recent years have also shown us solidarity, innovation and resilience.
We asked some of the most successful entrepreneurs and executives what they’ve learned from the pandemic and if they had any advice for their pre-Covid-19 selves to share with our readers to prepare for a future crisis.
This was the answer from ferenz feherCEO of Feher Consulting, and one of the leading experts in the franchise sector in the country.
The key is adaptation and resilience to markets, products and processes: Ferenz Feher
“Commemorate the third anniversary of the pandemic. It is something that is easy to say, but it changed us all.
Talking everything in the past tense is easier. I find it more interesting to be able to talk about what I would like to say to myself in 2020. The first thing I would say is how the weather is going. It is impressive how the years go by so quickly and we can now talk about this crisis a little in the past and that this has come to change us so much and advance millions of things.
But if I had to focus on four lessons, they would be these:
Differentiate the important from the urgent
We live in a rushing day to day where we suddenly get confused between what is truly immediate and the issues that are essential. It is worth giving everything its moment.
Don’t lose focus
This second lesson goes hand in hand with the first and is about never taking our eyes off the things that really contribute to our businesses and organizations. There are a lot of distractions, there are a lot of diversions, but staying focused is critical.
Adaptation and resilience
You have to be resilient to everything: to the markets because they change; to the products, because they have to be adapted; and of course, the processes. It is not necessary to think that because something is well done, we will always do it that way. Things are changing and processes have to adapt. Just as we embrace home office, online shopping and delivery, we realize that MUST modify processes. So, the key is adaptation and resilience to markets, products and processes.
Technology
It is the tool that we have to use today in conjunction with artificial intelligence because of the ease they provide for doing business. It is essential to stop handling ourselves in a ‘traditional’ way. A business that does not invest in technology today will not last and pass from generation to generation”.
