After the summer holidays, and before the start of the new season, it is time to put the house in order. Change of wardrobe to get the autumn clothes, organize them properly … a huge task that does not always pay off with the expected result.
To try to help you when it comes to To tidy up the closet, we have prepared a list with mistakes that you should never make when performing this task.
1. Do not throw anything. We know that it costs, that we are educated to keep everything, following the saying to the letter ‘the one who keeps, has‘. But before you start ordering, you have to discard everything that we haven’t worn for months.
2. Not having a criterion. Taking out the whole closet, and starting to save if it made sense, does not make sense either. Think of criteria when saving. It can be by colors, by type of garments, by what you use the most … for whatever. But use a criterion, and respect it.
3. Not thinking about where to put things with logic (and functionality). Apart from having a criterion for ordering your things, you have to think about where you are going to store everything with a certain logic and so that the day to day is comfortable and functional. If you put things away without thinking, even if you have the criteria of ordering, for example, by color, you will soon see that the effort to organize has not been of any use. Try to have the clothes and objects that you use the most every day on hand, or if you like to go with the matching shoes and bags, put them nearby so you can see them and choose.
4. Stay halfway. We know that ordering a closet, or the dressing room, is lazy. And it will probably cost you more than you thought. Because with these things you know when you start, but not when you finish. So even if you are tired, and think about continuing for a while, keep going! And try to do it in one go. Because you already know that if you don’t finish that day, the closet or dressing room may stay that way for weeks.
5. Not helping you with tools and accessories to keep order. To have everything organized, it is important that you have the appropriate accessories so that everything is in its place. Tie racks, shoe storage systems, to store your jewelry, your bags, boxes, drawer dividers … they are essential to order with discretion and functionality. Of course, base your purchases on what you are going to use, and on the organization criteria. That is, do not buy to buy.
6. Do not use labels. For many people, labeling boxes is a sign of being a neat freak. But really, ordering using tags will help you to have everything classified, and that you can find your things quickly when you look for them.
7. Overload the drawers. Sometimes we put more clothes and accessories in the drawers than we should. And although at first glance it may seem like a good thing to optimize space, the truth is that it is a complete mistake since if you put too many garments, all tight, it will cost you much more to maintain order: every time you take something, you will have to remove everything , and that will cause that drawer to be a source of disorder.
8. Hide your things. Sometimes, when something bothers us in sight, or when we don’t know where to keep it, the first thing we do is hide it. It can be in the junk room, or in the ironing room, or directly, in that closet that collects the trunks or things that we do not like. This is a complete mistake. If we don’t like something, get rid of it. And if we do not know where to store it, by size, or by shape, or because it does not fit in the closet, think of a place where you can locate it, instead of ending the problem by removing it from sight.
9. Do not call a professional. It may seem snobbish, or a waste of money. But if you don’t know how to order, or you don’t have time to do it right, don’t hesitate and call a professional. There are people who are dedicated to putting the cabinets in order, and who will also help you establish storage criteria and make your life much more functional and pleasant.
