Having a genius, gifted or above-average IQ child can be a dream for many parents; the important thing in these cases is to do an exercise in honesty and, if the result is affirmative, to support our children on their way to exploit their potential.
Gifted children have characteristics that will be presented in their first years of life and are the following:
GOOD MEMORY
In his baby stage he remembers past events without problem, for example where you hid his toys, songs and even faces without any problem.
ADVANCED LANGUAGE
His language and communication are advanced for his age, for example he says his first word at an early age, three months for example; Or, he is able to carry on a conversation between 18 and 24 months. Another sign is that you learn the alphabet and numbers from 1 to 10, before the age of two and a half.
Quiet
Babies with these characteristics do not like to spend a lot of time in the same place or position and demand attention, because their brain is looking for stimuli.
CONCENTRATION
In contrast, they are also able to focus for long periods, more so than their age.
ADULTS
He likes being with adults, he doesn’t get bored, he watches and tries to join the conversations, either with comments or questions.
SLEEP
Gifted children tend to wake up multiple times at night, as their brains continue to stimulate.
As you can see the signals given by gifted children are somewhat general, the ideal is that as parents we are aware of our children and their behavior, and if in doubt, go to specialists to determine if our son requires more stimulation than the rest of children his age.
Remember that each child is different and you should not compare him with others, much less with his siblings. In addition, there are different types of intelligence and it is important to know which one or which our children have to help them exploit them.
