Nobody is born knowing how to be a mother, it is a process where every day there is a new challenge to overcome and with it, a new learning that today goes beyond family life.
Before becoming a mother, I knew that I wanted to make my children independent, self-confident people and pass on all my knowledge to them. What I didn’t expect was how much I was going to learn from them, and even more so, that I was going to be able to apply these lessons in the professional field to boost my personal branding.
Here are six lessons I have learned from being a mother:
1. Patience
It refers to the ability to tolerate adversity with strength. So as a mom I have had endless sleepless nights or was looking for any way possible to procure my children.
As a leader, that patience is essential to successfully overcome the situations that come your way, both professionally and personally.
2. Pressure tolerance
We know that it is not easy to deal with a tantrum from our children; however, we seek the best way to solve it.
For this reason, within a company it is important that in events with clients or with the work team, it is known what is the best moment to stop and think of an effective solution.
3. Emotion management
On several occasions I have felt that feelings overwhelm me and I want to throw in the towel in front of my children; but, keeping your composure despite the circumstances is a skill that strengthens leadership.
It is important that you work on managing your emotions and feelings so that you are the one who controls them and not they control you.
4. Conflict resolution
Seeking that my children stay on good terms in the face of a fight was sometimes complicated, but not an impossible task. This ability brought to the professional world is necessary to solve every problem that arises effectively.
5. Negotiation
Over the years with my children, we have sought to make the best deals; since how long to watch television or give them permission to go out to a party.
In the same way, it is important that you create agreements with your clients and work team where it is a “win-win” between both parties without abusing the other.
6. Balance
Being a mom means dividing yourself into a thousand parts a day; household chores, activities with children, work, relationship, etc., and in each one seek that everything has the necessary space and time.
Likewise, in a company or a business it is important to dedicate periods to each activity, clients and personal life, to create a balance of time and activities.
Being a mother is a full-time activity and, without a doubt, it is a great opportunity to learn something new every day, which can also be applied in the world of work and to strengthen your personal branding.
