Warner Bros pulls licenses for its new game in the style of Smash Bros.
After months of rumours, Warner Bros Games announced at the end of last year the development of Multiversus, its own Smash Bros-style game that will feature characters from several of the American company’s most famous franchises, such as Shaggy, from Scooby Doo, Gandalf , from The Lord of the Rings, Tom & Jerr, Batman or Arya Stark, from Game of Thrones. Since then there haven’t been too many news about it, but A 5-minute gameplay of Multiversus seems to have leaked that would allow a quick look at the game proposal.
Apparently this brief gameplay comes from a closed beta that took place between the end of February and the beginning of March, that’s why the image is half encoded, there would be some kind of personal identifier. These are several clips of games that pit Jake from Adventure Time against Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman against one of the characters from Steven Universe, Batman also against Harley Quinn, or Belma from Scooby Doo against another Belma. Three maps appear, one from Adventure Time, one with a dark fantasy look, and one that appears to simulate a sandbox environment.
Playable, it seems to follow the classic Smash Bros formula of hitting the enemy and trying to get it off the map to the letter, but it’s surprising how well done they are the animations and the number of combos each character has, in addition to several quite spectacular abilities. He doesn’t look bad at all.
One Smash Bros to rule them all
Although it still does not have a specific release date, Multiversus was presented at the end of last year for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC consoles with the distinction of being a game free to play and with multiplayer crossplay to be able to play between platforms. So far confirmed 2 v 2, 1 v 1 and 4 player round robin games.
