The vast majority of summer video game events have already taken place, as the month of June is coming to an end. This is precisely the most appropriate time to look back and take stock of everything we have known. Starfield, The Callisto Protocol or Forza Motorsport take much of the headlines, and rightly so, but today we want to talk to you about 5 indie games that we have known during the Summer Game Fest and that you should not lose sight of. All of them are imaginative, have attractive visual sections, interesting gameplay design ideas or draw our attention for their proposals. Let’s go there.
cocoon
A few years ago, the lead designer of Limbo and Inside, Jeppe Carlsen, started his own project away from Playdead and founded Geometric Interactive. Cocoon is his first game. It will not arrive until 2023, but it will do so directly on Game Pass and with a very interesting proposal. We will control a winged insect with the ability to combine worlds and jump between them, which will be essential to advance in a platform and adventure title.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox
One of the stars of the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase was The Last Case of Benedict Fox, a beautiful metroidvania inspired by the work of HP Lovecraft and that puts us in the shoes of a detective who travels with his demon companion and arrives at a labyrinthine mansion in which you must go through the corridors and rooms while fighting against all kinds of enemies. He will also arrive in 2023 on Game Pass.
The Plucky Squire
James Turner, former designer of the Pokémon saga, begins his adventure outside of Nintendo’s mega-franchise with The Plucky Squire, one of the most surprising titles of Summer Game Fest 2022. This title introduces us to some characters who discover that they can leave the pages of the story to which they belong. Mixing action, with adventures and puzzles, The Plucky Squire combines gameplay in three dimensions with 2D parts. It will arrive in 2023 only on PC and next-gen consoles.
Broken Pieces
This point and click psychological thriller that has been part of the ID@Xbox Demo Fest (although for some unknown reason it has not been available in Spain) takes us to a remote coastal town in France that has somehow been separated from the course of time. Solving puzzles and defeating enemies, our task will be to find an explanation for the matter. It is planned for the third quarter of 2022.
Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley
The colorful town of Moominvalley has seen its balance and harmony damaged. Like Snufkin, our job will be precisely to return the splendor to the place. How will we do it? Through puzzles, stealth and nice musical and rhythmic elements that will go hand in hand with the open world concept of this precious video game. Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley will arrive sometime in 2023 on PC and consoles.
