We tell you how you can help your child to develop greater control of his head from birth.
GREAT LEARNING
From the first month of life, babies have great learning for their survival, from breathing at birth to maturing their systems and organs, so that they have a better adaptation in the world.
One of these learnings is to gain control of your head.
A BIG CHALLENGE
Controlling the head is a great physical challenge during those first weeks, and for this they will have to tone the muscles of their neck. This control will allow them to lay the foundations for turning, sitting, crawling and walking, in addition, it is essential to feed.
4 TIPS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR BABY’S NECK
The best way to tone and strengthen your neck is through stimulation exercises, that’s why we tell you some basics that will help your baby.
Upside down
1. Place him lying on his stomach for a moment, with his arms flexed and put an object in front of him that catches his attention. This way you will begin to lift your head, chest and trunk.
Face up
2. When he has a little more control of his head, you can lay him on his back and start to gently pull him by his arms, so that you take him to the position where he sits. It is a gradual process, so don’t force it or lift it too high to start it so you don’t get hurt.
Eye-catching objects
3. If your baby is lying on his back, call his attention with an object in front of him, in an upright position, so that he begins to raise his arms. This will tone your neck and shoulders as well until you can slightly lift your body.
Lay it down
4. Lay your little one on a smaller pillow or cushion, so they can begin to find their balance. Encourage him to raise his arms and talk to you so that he tries to turn to see you. This will also help to strengthen your muscles and cervicals.
Remember, the control of your baby’s head is a gradual process, which goes from its first days, until approximately 6 months, which is when they have almost complete control.
