If you are passionate about reading and want to share this hobby with your children, take note of these practical tips.
Sit in a comfortable place, open a book and let yourself be transported to other times and different places where you can experience intense adventures. If you are a book lover, surely you want to share this passion with your children.
If so, we will tell you that you have started well: nothing better than leading by example. If children get used to seeing you from a young age with a book in their hands, they are sure to be curious and want to imitate you. Share age-appropriate readings with them, tell them stories, and encourage them to make up stories. Here are some tips to encourage reading in kids:
1. Share with them since they were little: they are babies, but they listen to you, and the voice of mom and dad increases their security. In addition, the change in intonation and the repetition of words stimulate the baby’s language, contributing to better acquisition of speech. For this stage of your little one, we recommend books with simple texts and striking illustrations.
2. Books are a game: don’t let reading become an obligation, because then they will see it as boring and undesirable. Do not insist, leave time for the restlessness to read to itself. Suggest age-appropriate readings: Literature classics are all well and good, but not to begin with. If you associate reading with purely academic aspects, such as making index cards, summaries, and text commentaries on works you don’t yet understand, you will miss out on the best of reading, the pleasure of immersing yourself in a story and enjoying it.
3. Visit a library: going with them to places specially created for reading, such as libraries, can be a good way to encourage habit in them. They are spaces with a wide variety of proposals that allow the child to explore all the options, be amazed by the variety and choose reading as a challenge. Many libraries offer storytelling and other fun activities for children.
4. Use new technologies: don’t resist; your children were born in the digital age. Do new technologies offer a great variety of interesting resources that will help you in your objective: audiovisual books, animated illustrations, interactive stories? the important thing is to read, it does not matter the support in which it is made.
