Mexican public hospitals face a great deal of adversity ranging from a lack of budget to insufficient staff. This year they selected 250 best hospitals in the world, from 2,300 evaluated in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, South Korea, Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand.
How were the winners chosen?
Nations were selected based on comparability factors such as life standards and expectancy, population size, number of hospitals, and data availability.
The information was obtained through online surveys of 80,000 medical experts, who recommended hospitals in their country, and could not take into account those where they work.
Data from publicly available experience surveys conducted by insurance companies on patients after a period of hospitalization were also used.
General satisfaction and medical care, as well as the recommendation of the hospital were the categories that were taken into account. Likewise, the metrics of treatment quality, hygiene measures, patient safety and number of medical and nursing professionals per patient, among others, were recorded.
For the first time the evaluation index was implemented Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs for its acronym in English). It consists of the application of questionnaires to patients to measure their perception of functional well-being and quality of life.
Each hospital scored only comparable among its peers in the same country. The highest rating in the world was determined by the number of international recommendations it received in the survey and its national rank.
It should be noted that three years ago the INCMNSZ was the first public health institution in Mexico that the global data firm Statista included in its list of best international hospitals. From then to date it has been part of the group of medical units with the highest qualification.
