This weekend the winners of the Oscars 2022 are announced. Espinof we have already reviewed the surprises and disappointments that there were among the candidates, but these awards have incomprehensibly ignored a multitude of films throughout history. Today I propose a selection of big 4 movies to watch this weekend on Netflix and other streaming platforms that they didn’t even get a nomination at the time.
If by chance you feel like watching other types of movies, I remind you that we have already recommended 4 erotic movies available on different streaming platforms, 4 epic feature films, a review of 4 surprising films, a selection of 4 amazing science fiction movies on Netflix and 4 amazing works of fantasy on HBO Max. Without further ado, let’s move on to these great forgotten Oscars:
‘Rushmore Academy’
Direction: Wes Anderson Distribution: Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Olivia Williams, Seymour Cassel, Brian Cox, Connie Nielsen, Luke Wilson, Mason Gamble, Stephen McCole
wes anderson He is one of the most famous Hollywood directors of recent times. With a style as unmistakable as it is perfectionist, he had already aroused the interest of critics with ‘Bottle Rocket’, his first feature film, but it was with ‘Rushmore Academy’ when his career took a big step forward. This excellent and funny bitter comedy has the usual Martian touch of his work, but without emphasizing it more than necessary, and brilliantly explores themes such as friendship or the difficulties that arise along the way to achieve your dreams.
‘The Shining’
Direction: Stanley Kubrick. Distribution: Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd, Scatman Crothers, Barry Nelson, Philip Stone, Joe Turkel, Lia Beldam, Billie Gibson, Barry Dennen, David Baxt, Manning Redwood, Lisa Burns
An undisputed classic of horror movies that at the time was received with a certain coldness, to the point that it did achieve several nominations at the Razzie but none at the Oscars. Even though Stephen King continue to resist admitting it, it took very little time to put her in her place. And it is that we are before a jewel of the genre since its mythical start with the leading family arriving at the Overlook, but then it leaves a multitude of unforgettable scenes, not to mention the anthological Jack Torrante of Jack Nicholson.

‘Heat’
Direction: Michael Mann. Distribution: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore, Ashley Judd, Diane Venora, Amy Brenneman, Natalie Portman, Mykelti Williamson, William Fichtner, Wes Studi, Ted Levine
A fundamental thriller that has marked countless subsequent contributions to the genre and even such acclaimed titles as ‘The Dark Knight’. However, the Academy decided to ignore him completely, not really paying attention to Michael Mann until ‘El dilemma’, his next feature film. With a luxury cast, where the only thing you may know little about is that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino no longer interact together, and a meticulous staging that even served to dedicate a podcast analyzing it minute by minute.

‘The night of the hunter’ (‘The Night of the Hunter’)
Direction: Charles Laughton. Distribution: Robert Mitchum, Billy Chapin, Sally Ann Bruce, Shelley Winters, Lillian Gish, Peter Graves, Evelyn Varden, James Gleason
The injustice with this film goes far beyond having been left with 0 nominations, since both the public and the critics ignored the first feature film directed by Charles Laughton. That led to the fact that he never wanted to direct another one, which surely left us without great films like this twisted fairy tale in which there are so many things to highlight that it would be unfair to point only to the masterful interpretation of Robert Mitchum or its unsurpassed technical finish – pay special attention to the photography work of Stanley Cortezvital to convey to the viewer what Laughton was looking for-.
