A good plan for the weekend is to relax at home and watch a good movie. And if its duration is not very bulky, you can even afford to wear two. With that in mind, today I propose a selection of 4 excellent and very short films that you will currently find on Netflix and other streaming platforms.
In the event that none of the ones I have chosen today motivate you, I remind you that we also have similar lists of great films that unfairly failed, of amazing horror films, of powerful erotic cinema, of very funny films, of wonderful space science fiction films, of epic titles that are very worthwhile, or of quality historical cinema. Clarified this, let’s focus on today’s chosen ones:
‘7 years’
Direction: Roger Gual. Distribution: Àlex Brendemühl, Juana Acosta, Paco León, Juan Pablo Raba, Manuel Morón
The Netflix’s first Spanish film -and still one of the best today- lasts just 77 minutes and it is a thriller that goes straight to the point, posing a dilemma for its protagonists and managing different scenarios on how to face that inevitable crisis. Well written, acted – key this, because its protagonists are somewhat despicable and that could throw you out of the film as soon as they messed up – and directed.

‘Charlie and Snoopy: The Peanuts Movie’ (‘The Peanuts Movie’)
Direction: Steve Martin. Cast (vocals): Noah Schnapp, Bill Melendez, Alex Garfin, Noah Johnston, Hadley Belle Miller, Micah Revelli, Venus Omega, Mariel Sheets, Madisyn Shipman
The beloved characters created by Charles M. Schulz made the leap to the big screen with a 3D film that successfully combined its nostalgic spirit with the need to propose an adventure that would connect with the new generations. It is probably more optimistic than some fans expected – although its director said that they maintained the tone and spirit that they had always had – but it does not take away an iota of charm. In Disney + it appears that it has a duration of 92 minutes, but it is really 88 -it has a lot of information at the end about dubbing for different countries- and the point is that the final credits appear already at minute 78.

‘kimi’
Direction: Steven Sodebergh. Distribution: Zöe Kravitz, Erika Christensen, Emily Kuroda, Jaime Camil, India de Beaufort, Devin Ratray, Jacob Vargas, Byron Bowers, Caleb Emery, Leona Britt, Noelle E Parker, Derek DelGaudio, Raymond Power
Steven Sodebergh an effective thriller more typical of another era was pulled from the sleeve, with the exception of its technological touch. With a great command of space and a script that does not go around with frills, it is a simple film in appearance but that keeps inside certain ideas that are much more succulent than they might seem. And besides, his 89 minutes fly by.

‘Locke’
Direction: Steve Knight. Distribution: Tom Hardy, Olivia Colman, Ruth Wilson, Andrew Scott, Ben Daniels, Tom Holland, Bill Milner
Steven Knight He is best known for his facet as a screenwriter, especially for having created the acclaimed ‘Peaky Blinders’, whose film we will see soon, but he has also directed a handful of films. The one that concerns us now is the most interesting of them, starting from a very limited space to explore the bad night that the character played by Tom Hardy in one of the best performances of his career. The thing stays in just 81 minutes.
