The 2022 WRC season picks up cruising speed. After competing in Portugal and almost without rest, the World Rally Championship heads to Sardinia. In fact, the organizers of the Rally of Italy-Sardinia have published the registration list of the event that will take place between June 2 and 5. A total of 60 crews will meet on the stages of the Mediterranean island at an event that will feature eleven ‘Rally1’ vehicles, thirty-six ‘Rally2’ within the WRC2 category and four ‘Rally3’ in the WRC3 class at its service park.
The queen category of the World Cup returns to its ‘configuration’ of eleven participants, since M-Sport returns to its deployment with four Ford Puma Rally1 after competing with five chassis in Portugal. The absence of Sébastien Loeb, due to the clash of dates with the Andalucía Rally of the Rally-Raid World Championship, leaves Craig Breen, Gus Greensmith, Adrien Fourmaux, and Pierre-Louis Loubet as drivers for the Cumbrian trainer on the Sardinian stages. Toyota Gazoo Racing will also have four units from its ‘Rally1’, for the three from Hyundai Motorsport.
No surprises in Toyota’s driver line-upamong other things because the brand has already announced that Esapekka Lappi he returned to the controls of the third Toyota GR Yaris Rally1. The Finn will accompany his compatriot Kalle Rovanperä and Elfyn Evans in Sardinia, with the Japanese Takamoto Katsuta as Toyota’s fourth sword after touching the podium in Portugal. For its part, Hyundai repeats the squad regarding the Portuguese event and will compete with the trident formed by Ott Tänak, Thierry Neuville and Spaniard Dani Sordo. The Spaniard has won in Sardinia twice.
WRC2 always has a lot of crumb, among other things because of its large list of participants. Thirty-six ‘Rally2’ vehicles will battle it out for silver class honours. Leader Yohan Rossel will have to fight against the Skodas of Andreas Mikkelsen, Nikolay Gryazin and Marquito Bulaciabut also against the official Hyundai of Teemu Suninen and the Ford Fiesta Rally2 of Jari Huttunen, with support from M-Sport. Other proper names of the category are Chris Ingram and Sami Pajariin his jump to the silver class in a timely manner.
should not forget about Eric Camilli and Erik Caisnor of three ‘outsiders’ of carats like Martin Prokop, Freddy Loix and Jourdan Serderidis. The Spanish presence as always is wide. Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuan will compete with your Citroën C3, while Edward Pons He will do it together with Alberto Chamorro in his Skoda. Miguel Diaz-Aboitiz repeat with Jorid Hereu. In addition, we must add the role of co-pilots of Marc Marti, Carlos del Barrio and Axel Coronado. Also in WRC3 there will be a Spanish co-driver, since Rogelio Peñate competes with Diego Domínguez in one of the four Ford Fiesta Rally3 present.
