The constitutional reform of the National Guard with which the federal congress endorsed extending the presence of the Army in the streets until 2028 managed this Thursday to be validated by 17 state legislatures, with which it is only expected to be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) to enter into vigor.
The local legislatures of the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Nayarit and Sonora joined the other 13 local congresses that had already authorized the reform that extends the permanence of the Armed Forces in public security tasks.
It was on October 27 when the congresses of the State of Mexico, Nayarit, Hidalgo and Sonora validated the legislative changes, thus joining Querétaro, Puebla, Tabasco, Baja California, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Michoacán, Tlaxcala, Sinaloa, Veracruz, Campeche, CDMX and Oaxaca.
On October 1, at the Chamber of Deputiesthe project was approved to expand the tasks of the Army in public security until 2028, in which the National Guard develops its structure and capabilities.
Armed Forces Opinion
The approved opinion says that in the next nine years from the entry into force of the decree (2019), while the National Guard develops its structure, capabilities and territorial implementation, the President of the Republic will be able to have the permanent Armed Forces in security tasks public.
