3 And for you, what will the hospitals of the future be like?

    Transformation within healthcare

In the first instance, healthcare today is quite different than it was half a century ago. Before, the service was only face-to-face until telemedicine emerged and allowed this universal right to be brought to remote communities.

In the same way, health professionals now have various tools at their disposal to carry out their tasks. From specialized equipment to mobile applications that are useful to offer a more complete service to your patients.

For their part, now medical consultations online they live a moment of rage for all the benefits they offer. There is no need for physical contact between doctors and patients and they also reduce waiting times because it is not necessary to travel to other places.

Hospitals of the future, a vision into unknown lands

Because the medical service changes, it is natural to think that hospitals will also change. Although the structure is the same, what is important is everything that will be inside the buildings.

About this topic, the IESE Business School of the University of Navarra produced the document titled The hospital of the future. One of its objectives is to anticipate the way this sector will be in 2030. Among the characteristics that it includes, there are 10 that it mentions and they are the following:

    1. Hospitals are expected to focus on high-value, high-complexity services and become efficient organizations without the need for large volumes of activity.
    2. They will develop new healthcare services, such as personalized medicine and genome-based diagnosis based on new healthcare technologies that require specialized training.
    3. They will provide services to patients referred to other centers and will also manage specialized care for a reference population.
    4. Public health systems are reviewing care services to improve efficiency and quality.
    5. Hospitals will not be defined by physical structures and will be organized to provide services in different locations.
    6. They will continue to be the main research and training centers for new professionals, which implies that the generation of knowledge and skills will continue to improve.
    7. Care professionals will be able to actively participate in the governance and management of the institution.
    8. The leading hospitals will be organized by process-oriented teams and will seek to create integrated care models, either virtually or through the merger of companies.
    9. Thanks to technology, in the coming years patients will spend less time in hospitals and care centers.
    10. The professionals will form part of multidisciplinary and process-oriented teams. In this way, the barriers that exist today between doctors, nurses and other health professionals will be eliminated.
